Going over time on a presentation is the easiest way to undo a good talk: the audience disengages, the Q&A is rushed, and the next speaker is pushed back. A presentation timer is the cheapest insurance against drift — set it before the talk starts and pull the notification on the slide changes you have rehearsed against. Default here is 20 minutes — the standard short conference talk. Set 10 for a lightning talk; 45 or 60 for a workshop slot. Label the timer with the talk title or a slide cue so the notification carries it. Critically, the countdown runs server-side, so even if you switch devices or close the timer page during the talk, the end-of-talk notification arrives on Telegram, push, or email at the right moment. For dry-run rehearsal, run the timer and time-stamp the slides where you naturally land at 5-minute intervals — if you are still on slide 3 at 7 minutes, the talk is too dense. For longer formats (workshop, panel) the 30-minute and 1-hour timers fit better. For sprint-format pitches use the meeting page or a custom shorter duration.
